City Church Winchester

Mission

City Church Winchester is part of a wider network of Winchester based churches known as 'Mission Winchester'. This group of Churches aims to work together to promote unity, to spread the good news of the gospel and to see renewal and lives changed city wide in Winchester. The Mission Winchester churches also hold joint services/celebrations and prayer sessions for the City. The principal event for Mission Winchester Churches this year was 'The Feast '06' , in which the Churches involved reached out, impacted and and served the City in fresh, loving and practical ways.

We aim to carry out God's agenda through faith and action

We believe that God does work through his Church to bring about his wonderful purposes and will, and that we are to reflect God's glory to a darkened and lost world. We do this in very real and practical ways because we know that real love and faith in Jesus Christ is demonstrated through action.

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  James 2:15-17 (NIV)

We hope that in the small things that we do as a Church and as individuals, the loving heart of the Father  can be seen, and that we can grow in these and other ministries that he has entrusted to us.

'I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.' John 14:11-13 (NIV)

Our heart's desire, our hope, is that he is glorified in what we do. Not that we are a success in the eyes of man but that his kingdom may be seen, established and advanced and that the Lord Jesus Christ is glorified.

Street Reach

Street Reach is the work of a group of people mainly from City Church who each Saturday evening take soup rolls and other items of food together with gloves socks and emergency blankets to those who are sleeping rough on the streets of Winchester. During the past three years this small group of faithful men and women have built relationships with the most disadvantaged people in our society. They have talked, listened and served them in practical ways and had the privilege of being asked to pray with them about specific needs. Each round starts and finishes with a time of prayer at the church for those who have been met during the evening. Because this is a regular commitment they have also been able to follow up conversations and find how prayers have been answered and lives touched by the love of Jesus demonstrated in simple ways. We are grateful that a few others from the Salvation Army and outside the churches have recently joined with us in this work and that the Salvation Army has donated sleeping bags for distribution.

Winchester Basics Bank

The Basics Bank operates in the basement of City Church and is open on Tuesday and Friday from 10:30-2:30. If you would like to volunteer or have items to donate please speak to Sue at City Church.

Winchester Basics Bank was founded following an invitation from City Church in 2003 to a meeting with Chris Davies of the Southampton based S.C.R.A.T.C.H where he outlined the work of the Basics Bank. An inter-church group began to meet and plan for the establishing of the Winchester Basics Bank to :‘provide emergency food and clothing to individuals and families in need. It aims to make appropriate resources available to the maximum number of people at their point of greatest need.’

Since opening in Jan 2004 the Basics Bank provided essential food and clothing to almost 1000 clients in the first year. For more information go to: http://wbb.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk
